Fred Persinger II

I have been with Sports Radio 1340 WEPM since June of 2009, I am the Program Director for the Station and the Play-by-Play voice as well and host In The Zone weekdays from 5P-6P.  I have been in the Radio business for 22 years, following in the footsteps of my Dad.  I got my start in Radio working overnights at WTNJ in my Senior Year of High School.  I have had the pleasure of calling games for some great teams including the Oak Hill Red Devils, the Bluefield Beavers, the Shady Spring Tigers, and now the 5 schools here in the Panhandle.  I have also have had the oppurtunity to call play-by-play for WVU Tech for 4 years in the late 90's.  I will be blogging about alot of different sports stories that go on both nationally and locally so make sure to stop by often.  You can also follow me on twitter @fredpersinger2 and if you have any comments please feel free to post or email me at fred@prettymanbroadcasting.com

High School Football
Anybody who knows me knows that I love this time of year, The High School Sports season is getting ready to get going again.  Of course, I am looking forward to calling games for a 4th year at WEPM and getting ready for my 21st year overall.  I still feel the same way I did 21 years ago when I first started at Oak Hill High School, a little nervous about the start of the season and very excited because I am getting ready to do something that I truly love to do.

When I started looking at this year in football in the Eastern Panhandle it shapes up to be a exciting year once again.  There will be some great matchups and great rivalry games each year like Martinsburg-Musselman, Martinsburg-Hedgesville, Jefferson-Washington but there are some great matchups with teams from the Panhandle against some of the state's best teams as well like Martinsburg at Morgantown, Parkersburg South at Musselman, Hedgesville at Wheeling Park, and Musselman will travel to take on one of the new Class AAA teams this year in Shady Spring who will feature maybe one of the best Quarterbacks  in the state in Adam Weeks who threw for 1,696 yards, 21 TD and just 3 INT last year.

And it will be interesting in other sports as well as Jefferson Cross Country boys team will defend their title, In Boys Soccer Washington will try to make it back where they were runners up, and lets don't forget about one of the most dominant teams in Volleyball in Musselman who finished 2nd last year with a team filled with freshmen and missing some starters after being ruled ineligible because of trying out for a Club team before the season is over.

I look forward to calling the games and keeping up with all of the teams and players in the upcoming sports season.  I will update the scores and games that we cover on our twitter account @WEPMSports and you can follow me @fredpersinger2
